Our Take

Emmett spent two years as a pop-up before landing in Fishtown, and the food reads like it was tested relentlessly before anyone ever paid for it. The kitchen works a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern register that isn't new to this city, but the execution stops conversation mid-meal — wagyu tartlets under wasabi, tuna cut with Calabrian heat, dishes precise enough that a third course in, you notice you've gone quiet.

The room argues for itself too. It's tight — knees knock with strangers at the tables, and the walk-in bar is raw wood and no reservations, built for people who don't mind waiting for a lamb-fat-washed rye cocktail. That's a real trade-off, but it reads as intention, not an oversight, and the crowd it draws seems to want exactly that.

The people running the kitchen came up through serious Philadelphia rooms, and it shows in how controlled the food is under pressure on a packed night. A James Beard Best New Restaurant finalist and semifinalist nod in the same year isn't a fluke for a place still this new. Emmett built a following from pop-ups and turned it into one of the city's most necessary reservations. Go hungry, go patient, sit at the bar if you can.

The Spot
Emmett sits in Olde Kensington, on the edge of the stretch of Philadelphia often described as its booming culinary corridor. Chef Partner Evan Snyder and Managing Partner Julian van der Tak built the restaurant around what they call macro Mediterranean cooking — Levantine cuisine layered with French, Italian, Middle Eastern, and North African elements, shaped by relationships with regional farms and producers rather than a fixed menu. Antonio Pizzo runs the kitchen day-to-day as chef de cuisine, and Marissa Chirico oversees the front of house and wine program.

The tasting menu format has drawn particular praise, and a madeleine has become the dish regulars single out. The room reflects the same collaborative ethos as the kitchen: ceramics, glassware, and design work come from Philadelphia-based artists, giving the space a distinctly local identity.

Emmett landed on Philadelphia Magazine's Best of Philly list in 2025 and earned a 9.3/10 from The Infatuation. The James Beard Foundation named it both a semifinalist and a finalist for Best New Restaurant in 2026.
