Sylvain takes its name from the first opera ever staged in New Orleans — a raucous comedy — and the restaurant has built its identity around that same energy. Set in a French Quarter carriage house dating to the late 1700s, it wears its history loosely: no dress code, loud music, and a dining room that blends into a courtyard built for lingering.
The menu runs through iconic Southern fare alongside cocktails that riff on classic templates. Regulars order the pappardelle bolognese, cornbread, chocolate pot de creme, pork and shrimp dishes, with the courtyard doing double duty as an event space for weddings and private dinners.
The kitchen has drawn James Beard Foundation recognition, named a semifinalist for Best Chef in 2018 and for Rising Star Chef of the Year in 2017.
