Our Take

International Market has been doing this since 1975, and it still runs two restaurants under one roof. Lunch is steam-table Thai at its most direct: crab rangoon off the hotline, pad thai loaded onto trays, a room full of regulars who clearly know the drill. Some of the people working the stations have been there since the early years. It's fast, it's cheap, and it's exactly as good as it needs to be.

Dinner is the other argument. The same kitchen turns out sharper, more ambitious versions of Thai standards — noodle dishes built with more technique than the lunch crowd ever sees, plates aimed at people who want to be surprised rather than fed quickly. That range, doing both without diluting either, is the real skill on display.

Four decades of consistency don't usually earn new attention, but this kitchen has picked up a Michelin Guide selection and a James Beard semifinalist nod in the same recent stretch. Neither is why the place works. It works because the crab rangoon at lunch and the noodles at dinner both taste like someone still cares whether you come back.

The Spot
International Market traces back to 1975, when Win and Patti Myint opened the original International Market & Restaurant on Belmont Blvd. For nearly 45 years, it fed generations of Belmont University students, introducing many of them to their first taste of Thai cuisine.

In September 2021, their children Anna and Arnold Myint soft-opened International Market 2.0 across the street from the original spot, carrying the family name and history into a new space in Belmont-Hillsboro.

The restaurant holds an official Thai cuisine seal of approval from Thailand's Ministry of Commerce and Royal Thai Government, a first for Nashville. It was named a James Beard Foundation semifinalist for Best Chef in the Southeast in 2024, and was selected for the Michelin Guide's inaugural American South list in 2025. Eater has also included it among the city's essential restaurants.
