Our Take

Husk occupies a genuine piece of Nashville history, a Rutledge Hill mansion raised in the late 1800s by one of the city's mayors, all pillars and wraparound porch. That setting alone would carry a lesser kitchen. It doesn't have to. The food takes Southern ingredients and treats them as material for real technique rather than nostalgia, and the veggie plate is the clearest proof of it: a rotating lineup that makes vegetables the point of the meal, not the obligation.

The place had a louder moment early on, when a marquee chef made it the reservation everyone wanted. That chef moved on, and for a stretch Husk had to find its identity again while the city filled up with competitors chasing the same Southern-food ambitions. It has. What's here now is steadier and less showy — reliable in the way a kitchen gets when it stops performing and starts cooking.

The patio does real work too, especially at brunch, when the porch and the pillars make the case for the building as much as the plates do. A James Beard Outstanding Chef finalist nod backs up what the food already argues: this is a kitchen operating with real skill, even past its buzziest years.

The Spot
Husk Nashville works from an ingredient-driven approach to Southern cooking, drawing dish inspiration directly from Tennessee purveyors and farmers. The menu changes constantly across dinner and brunch, sourced from suppliers like Villa Acres Farms in Sparta, Bucksnort Trout Ranch in McEwen, and Blue Heron Farmstead in Milton.

The restaurant sits on Rutledge St. in Rutledge Hill. On the property, a historic carriage house called the Stables operates as a private dining and events space, hosting seated dinners, brunches, and cocktail receptions separate from the main dining room.

Husk Nashville is part of the Neighborhood Dining Group, which also runs Husk Charleston and Husk Savannah.
