The Spot
J.D. Hoyt's Supper Club has anchored the North Loop of Minneapolis for more than 40 years, serving steakhouse cuisine with a Cajun flair from a spot on North Washington Avenue overlooking the city skyline. It bills itself as a locally owned, non-corporate room in a neighborhood built up around it.

Entrees come off a custom-built, 100% hardwood-burning charcoal grill — the only one of its kind in Minneapolis — and reviewers point to the pork chop, prime rib, lobster, and Cajun catfish, seasoned with a Creole touch, alongside cheesy bread brought to the table and a cup of gumbo that regulars single out.

The restaurant has also built a following well beyond the neighborhood, serving as caterer of choice for visiting NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB teams and as the training-table stop for University of Minnesota athletics, with pro athletes turning up in the dining room alongside longtime regulars.
