OMAKAI opened in Wynwood in 2019, founded by brothers Diego and Pedro Quijada along with Nicolas Sayavedra and Chef Aaron Pate. The restaurant built its concept around the idea of trusting the chef's selections, describing its approach through the Japanese concept of omotenashi, or hospitality from the heart.
The menu runs on two tracks. Guests can order à la carte — hand rolls like Blue Crab and Maine Lobster, nigiri ranging from Salmon to O-Toro and Wagyu A5 JPN, and composed plates like the OMA Deluxe Appetizer — or opt into The OMAKAI Experience, a nine-course chef-led tasting built on premium, seasonal ingredients and specialty cuts of seafood. Fish arrives daily in limited quantities, which keeps the selection tight and shifting.
Despite the omakase framing, service here runs table-side rather than at a sushi counter, and the kitchen stays out of view — a more casual format than the hand-roll-bar branding might suggest.
