Luca Osteria

Luca Osteria is a pasta restaurant first, and it treats that job seriously enough that nothing else on the menu gets to be an afterthought. Giorgio Rapicavoli built it as a tribute to his own Italian roots, and it reads that way on the plate: pasta al limone and short rib pappardelle that earn their regular-order status, patate fritte that might be the single best thing to come out of the kitchen, grilled carrots with roasted pistachios that could headline a lesser menu. The herb-lemon crusted halibut proves the kitchen isn't only coasting on carbs.

What separates Luca from a good opening week is that none of this has slipped. Years past its debut, the pasta still arrives the way it did on day one, and that kind of discipline is rarer in this city than a clever opening month. It's a restaurant built for repeat visits — the serious date, the picky relative, the regular who just wants the short rib pappardelle again.

The room helps. A table outside on Giralda Plaza on a cool evening is still one of the better seats in Coral Gables. This is a kitchen that nailed its identity early and simply refused to drift from it, which is a harder trick than opening well in the first place.
