The Spot
Room 39 sits at 1717 W 39th Street in Midtown-Westport, serving farm-driven American food across breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Chef and owner Ted Habiger, who led Café Allegro and worked as a sous chef at Danny Meyer's Union Square Cafe in NYC, runs the kitchen with a menu that shifts based on what local producers bring in.

Breakfast has become a particular draw for regulars, and the kitchen has built a reputation for consistent execution in a tight, close-quarters dining room that locals treat as a neighborhood fixture. Habiger has been named a James Beard Foundation Best Chef semifinalist four times — in 2008, 2012, and twice in 2014, including a Best Chef Midwest nod.

Habiger's other Kansas City projects include Oil on Linen at the Kemper Museum and a food program for KC Current's stadium, but Room 39 remains his original restaurant on 39th Street.
