Rougarou takes its name from the rougarou, a shapeshifting creature out of Southern swamp lore — an apt reference point for a restaurant its owners describe as an amalgamation of tales and traditions rather than one fixed identity. Mclain Hedges and Mary Allison Wright, also behind Yacht Club, opened the restaurant on Welton Street in Five Points, with Mary Allison's brother JohnDavid Wright running the kitchen as executive chef.
The restaurant is built with a wine and cocktail focus, cooking rooted in the culinary traditions of the American South.
Rougarou landed on Eater's Essential 38, its list of standout Denver restaurants, and has also been reviewed by The Infatuation.
