Little Mama’s Italian

Little Mama's plays a specific bit and plays it straight: a classy mid-century Italian-American joint, the kind of room that feels transplanted from a New England supper club decades back. The move that makes it more than nostalgia is the mozzarella bar, made-to-order cheese pulled fresh and served with things like goat cheese-and-mascarpone-stuffed peppadew peppers or marinated artichokes. Order it. Then order pasta, because skipping either half of the operation misses the point.

The red-sauce plates back up the theater. Spaghetti and meatballs, ravioli, lasagna all land as the real thing rather than a rendered version of it. The spicy ziti al telefono is the standout, tomato and basil against calabrian chilis and that same fresh mozzarella pulled through the sauce. This is comfort cooking executed with real technique, not just plated with confidence.

The recognition has followed accordingly, with multiple national lists taking notice and a spot in Charlotte's Michelin Guide selections. None of that is the reason to go. The reason is a kitchen making its own cheese and its own pasta and getting both right, in a room that knows exactly what era it's arguing for.
