Whip In has been independent and locally-owned since 1986, when it started as a neighborhood corner store. It has since grown into a gastropub with 70 beers on tap and a full wine list, alongside a from-scratch kitchen serving Indian dishes including naan and curry. The convenience grocery selection from its original days is still part of the mix.
Live music and events run regularly, and the combination of market, bar, and kitchen gives the place the feel of a neighborhood hangout as much as a restaurant.
Whip In has been included in the Eater 38 for Austin.
