Our Take

Little Bear runs on a menu that never sits still, built by its chef/owner around whatever's in season and worth cooking that week. The strawberry sambal chicken, hit hard with Tajin, and the karnatzlach sausage drowned in a red pea mapo sauce are the kind of pairings that shouldn't work on paper and land anyway. This is a kitchen willing to gamble on flavor combinations most places won't touch, and winning often enough that regulars keep showing up just to see what changed.

The room backs it up. It reads less like a gastropub than someone's dining room — homey, unfussy, the kind of place that doesn't need white tablecloths to be taken seriously. The menu itself pokes fun at its own ambition, tagging items as unnecessary garnishes and running a cartoon of the owner's dog across the page. None of that self-deprecation dulls the cooking. It just means the place isn't precious about being good.

Three straight years of Bib Gourmand recognition and repeated appearances on national radar confirm what the plates already argue. Summerhill has a real one here.

The Spot
Little Bear runs a small plates format out of Summerhill, with guests choosing nightly between an à la carte menu or a prix fixe option. The à la carte side accommodates most dietary restrictions, from vegetarian and gluten-free to nut-free requests.

The kitchen has built a reputation for innovative, chef-driven cooking paired with attentive service, the kind that regulars and reviewers point to consistently. That reputation has translated into a steady run of recognition: StarChefs named the team to its Rising Stars class in 2023, Eater included the restaurant on its Eater 38, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution named it to a 2025 best-of list. The Infatuation scored it 9.3 out of 10.

Michelin has awarded Little Bear a Bib Gourmand three years running — 2023, 2024, and 2025.
