Our Take

Jônt is Ryan Ratino's two-star counter upstairs from Bresca: a handful of seats, a Japanese-leaning progression of courses, and a level of ingredient obsession — binchotan, aged fish, produce flown for a single dish — that Washington simply didn't have before it.

Counters this ambitious live or die on rhythm, and Jônt's is exact: each course lands, gets explained, gets eaten while it matters. It is the closest thing the city has to Tokyo-grade precision, delivered with more warmth than the genre usually allows.

The Spot
Jônt is built around a single tasting counter on 14th Street, where the kitchen and dining room sit close enough that the meal doubles as a demonstration. Executive Chef and Owner Ryan Ratino runs a progressive tasting menu that draws on simple, luxury ingredients from around the world with a notable nod to Japanese cuisine.

Wine and service are treated as part of the show here — reviewers regularly single out the sommelier program and a service team that's as fluent in the pours as in the food itself.

Michelin awarded Jônt two stars in 2021, 2022, 2024, and 2025. Robb Report named it among its Best New Restaurants for 2026, and Washingtonian included it among the city's best restaurants in 2025.
