Brick & Mortar is the work of Chef Jason Ruhe and Hope Montgomery, a husband-and-wife team who run the kitchen and dining room together in downtown St. Petersburg. The menu is a la carte, split between shared plates and mains, and shifts with the season rather than holding to a fixed lineup.
Shared plates include a carpaccio of beef tenderloin with house ravioli and handcut truffle fries, while mains lean on house-made pasta and Gulf ingredients: braised short rib over housemade "fat" noodles, pasta alla amatriciana with house-made pancetta, fresh cavatelli with roasted mushrooms, a bouillabaisse built on coconut and spicy red curry broth with Gulf shrimp and PEI mussels, pan-seared branzino, and a house-ground B&M burger.
Ruhe and Montgomery opened Brick & Mortar after years of catering and consulting together, making it the first restaurant to come out of that partnership before they went on to open other concepts in the area.
