Bird & The Bottle is the sixth restaurant from husband-and-wife team Mark and Terri Stark, who run it under their Stark Reality Restaurants group. Mark serves as executive chef; Terri oversees business operations for the group.
The name nods to a Prohibition-era phrase — "a hot bird and a cold bottle" — used to describe the late-night pairing of a warm dish and a cold bottle of champagne sought by young men-about-town in pre-WWI New York, and echoes an 1889 Eugene Field poem of a similar title.
The kitchen works from an open format built around a wood-fired grill, sending out large and small plates meant for sharing. The menu draws on street food traditions, pulling in flavors from Asia, the American South, the East Coast, and Jewish comfort food, alongside a rotating seafood selection. Seating spreads across three dining rooms and two decks, with wine, craft beer on tap and by the bottle, and cocktails served by the glass or by the shaker for the table.
The restaurant sits just east of downtown Santa Rosa in Sonoma County wine country.
