The Spot
My Friend Derek's occupies a small storefront in Tangletown, Wallingford, serving Detroit-style pizza. The place started as an underground operation — pies baked in a home oven and run out to people waiting in their cars — before becoming a permanent shop on N 55th Street.

Pizza runs the show most of the week, with specials, salads, and a list of cheap beer, wine, and spritzes rounding things out. On weekends, the focaccia sandwiches take over for lunch and have built their own following alongside the pizza.

Regulars point to the quality of the pies and the friendliness of the staff as reasons to squeeze into the small space, even when seating runs tight. The Infatuation scored it 8.8/10.
