Our Take

Sungho runs eleven items, no more, and the discipline shows in every bowl. This is Korean comfort food distilled to its essentials — spicy marinated crab, a kalguksu with broth thick enough to call gravy, pork handled three ways: braised, slow-boiled, deep-fried. Nothing on the list is there to pad the menu. Everything on it has a reason to exist.

That restraint turns into an easy kind of confidence at the table. You're not parsing a menu or hedging bets — you order, and the kitchen delivers. The crispy pancakes come out the size of a dinner plate, built for sharing across a slow catch-up. The pork bone soup, simmered a full day, is the move for anyone eating solo at the bar, and it rewards the patience that went into it.

The Tenderloin room is quiet, unshowy, exactly matched to food that doesn't need theater to land. Service keeps pace, prices stay fair for what shows up, and the kitchen hits the same marks meal after meal — the kind of consistency that's harder to pull off than novelty.

Michelin selected Sungho for its 2026 guide. The eleven dishes already made that case.

The Spot
Sungho is a neighborhood Korean restaurant in the Tenderloin built around gukbap, the traditional Korean soup chef Seongho grew up eating at his grandmother's table. After years as a head chef in traditional Korean restaurants, he narrowed his menu down to simmer broth for 24 hours and built the rest of the kitchen's identity around pork.

The menu runs about 11 items, with pork bone soup as the signature dish alongside spicy pork bone soup and beef short rib soup, plus kimchi and seafood pancakes, kalguksu noodles, and platters of homemade jokbal (slow-braised trotters) and bossam (boiled pork belly). It's counter service, casual, and compact — the kind of place that does a short list of dishes consistently rather than a sprawling menu.
