Our Take

Ambra runs on a single community table and counter seats facing the kitchen, which tells you what kind of restaurant this is before a plate arrives. It wants you close to the work. The handmade pappardelle, piled with truffle over a veal and artichoke ragu, tastes like it came out of a home kitchen in a hot Italian summer rather than a professional line. The frutti di mare, glossed in a squid ink vinaigrette, carries an actual sense of the sea rather than the usual seafood-plate blankness.

What separates Ambra from a merely excellent Italian tasting menu is that the food and the room are built as one argument. Sitting shoulder to shoulder with strangers at a shared table, watching the counter cooks work, turns dinner into something closer to a long, deliberate evening than a meal with courses. Nothing here feels padded or ceremonial for its own sake — every dish earns its place in a three-hour sitting.

The city's own press has flagged it, national lists have taken notice, and it landed a Michelin selection in the 2025 guide. None of that is why it works. It works because the kitchen treats hospitality and cooking as the same discipline, and rarely misses on either.

The Spot
Ambra is a modern Italian restaurant in Queen Village centered on a seasonal tasting menu. Regulars describe a kitchen-close dining experience, with service that walks diners through each course in detail.

The cooking is frequently described as creative and tied to the season, with the tasting menu itself cited as the restaurant's memorable core. Service draws consistent praise for its attention to detail, and diners generally consider the price point matched by what they get.

Michelin selected Ambra for its 2025 guide. Eater named it to its Essential 38 list, Philadelphia Magazine included it among the city's best restaurants of 2025, and The Infatuation scored it 9.1 out of 10.
