Heard Dat Kitchen sits on the corner of Felicity and Terpsichore Street in Central City, inside a building that once housed a soap works. Chef Jeffrey Heard, born in New Orleans in 1961, started washing dishes as a teenager and spent years working in hotels, banquet halls, and fine dining rooms before opening this restaurant on March 2, 2015 — his wife made the red beans and rice for the first service.
The menu leans into New Orleans comfort cooking, with blackened fish, potato salad, and macaroni among the dishes that keep coming up from regulars and visitors alike. Heard has described his approach to hospitality plainly: making sure guests know the staff is concerned about getting everything right.
The restaurant offers outdoor seating on Felicity Street and runs a catering arm, Audrey Mae's Catering. NOLA.com's Where NOLA Eats named it one of the city's best restaurants in 2025.
