The Spot
Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen is the work of Chef Sylvia Casares, serving scratch-made Tex-Mex and Mexican cooking built on family recipes across two Houston locations, including this Westside spot near Eldridge. The kitchen makes its own chili gravy, red salsa, and tomatillo sauce — the same sauces sold by the bottle under the Enchilada Queen name.

Enchiladas are the strength of the menu, and regulars have kept coming back for the consistency of the cooking as much as the flavor. The restaurant has built a reputation as a long-standing neighborhood staple, with service and staff frequently singled out by guests alongside the food.

Casares also hosts hands-on cooking classes at the Eldridge location, where guests learn to prepare her recipes directly, and has published The Enchilada Queen Cookbook. She was named a James Beard Foundation Best Chef semifinalist in 2022.
