Mirra treats Indian and Mexican cuisines as one kitchen rather than two menus sharing a room. The Bucktown restaurant comes from chefs Zubair Mohajir and Rishi Kumar, alongside bartender David Mor, and runs separate brunch and dinner service in addition to a seven-course tasting menu for guests who want the longer version.
Kumar's own path runs through Frontera Grill and Topolobampo, where he worked his way from intern to sous chef and private event chef, with additional training in southern France and Singapore before helping open Bar Sótano. That background shows up in a menu that's developed a following for dishes like the carne apache.
Michelin awarded Mirra a Bib Gourmand in 2025, and the restaurant's chef was named a semifinalist for the James Beard Foundation's Best Chef: Great Lakes award in 2026. Eater has also included Mirra among its citywide best-of picks.
