The Spot
Diner Grill has occupied its spot on Irving Park Road since 1937, one of Chicago's longer-running family-owned comfort food counters. A fire destroyed the building on Christmas Eve 2016; the family rebuilt and reopened in 2018, picking up where decades of scratch-made cooking left off.

Breakfast is the throughline — eggs paired with a protein, with options spanning baked ham, bacon, sausage, patties, pork chop, and ribeye. The counter-style seating is tiny and intimate, and service moves fast without losing its friendly, attentive feel.

It's the kind of place regulars describe as a hidden gem they wish they'd found sooner — generous portions, consistent execution, and prices that keep people coming back.
