The Spot
Birrieria Ocotlan has served the East Side since 1973, working from a menu built around chivo (goat) and res (beef) birria. Tacos come dressed simply with cilantro, cebolla, and salsa verde or roja, and the offal options — lengua and cheek among them — sit alongside the standard cuts for regulars who know what to order. Quesabirria arrives with consomé for dipping.

The restaurant now runs two locations in the neighborhood, on East 106th Street and Commercial Avenue, both keeping to the same straightforward menu. Reasonable pricing and consistent execution have built a base of repeat customers over the decades.
