Our Take

Moëca works as a seafood restaurant should: the room feels considered, the service moves with real attention, and the plates arrive with enough confidence that regulars keep coming back. The praise clusters around exactly those three things — food, service, atmosphere — and that consistency across diners matters more than any single dish description could.

It's not flawless. Portions run small enough that some diners leave unconvinced the night matched the anticipation, and a handful of visits have landed inconsistent rather than dialed in. Those complaints are real, but they're the complaints of a restaurant operating at a level where expectations are already high, not a place coasting on reputation.

Moëca earned a spot on the Michelin Guide's 2025 selection, and separately made a recognition list elsewhere — two different bodies converging on the same read. In a neighborhood that doesn't get much attention for destination seafood, that convergence is the point. Go in expecting a tight, well-run kitchen rather than an overwhelming one, and Moëca delivers.

The Spot
Moëca is a neighborhood seafood restaurant in Boston's Neighborhood Nine, working from small plates up to larger whole-fish preparations. Seafood comes from small-boat fishermen, and the kitchen runs its own smoking and curing program for fish.

The raw section includes Maine uni with brown bread and meyer lemon, bigeye tuna with beet and spiced pistachios, and unicorn oysters with tomato granita and Calabrian chili. Share plates bring loligo squid with crispy tentacles, black garlic, and green crab laksa. Pasta includes gnocchi with Maine lobster and fermented chili, and Sardinian ravioli with kraut, mustard, clothbound cheddar, and black truffle. Larger plates run to Acadian redfish with guajillo golae, branzino with green vichyssoise, and swordfish schnitzel with yogurt gribiche.

Michelin selected Moëca for its 2025 guide.
