Our Take

Lenox Sophia runs a tight tasting menu four nights a week, French in its bones with Asian technique threaded through — tagliatelle under shaved black truffle, buttermilk fried quail dusted with nori and wasabi. Both the omnivore and vegetarian tracks hold up, which is rarer than it should be at this size. The room is small, the pace is unhurried, and the kitchen treats a short format as a discipline rather than a limitation.

It's also BYOB, which changes the math of a tasting menu entirely — you're paying for the cooking, not a wine list markup, and the savings show up in how often people come back. That's part of why this place is packed most nights it's open.

South Boston has been filling in fast with new openings, and Lenox Sophia is the one worth the trip rather than the one you settle for nearby. The cooking is precise without being precious, the service matches the ambition, and Michelin took notice with a 2025 selection. This is a small restaurant doing a hard thing consistently well.

The Spot
Lenox Sophia sits on a corner in South Boston, a small, intimate room run by chef and owner Shi Mei, who trained at Johnson & Wales before working in Napa Valley at The French Laundry and Bouchon. The kitchen currently serves a five-course prix-fixe menu built around French- and Asian-inspired cooking, with both omnivore and vegetarian versions offered. It's also one of the few BYOB restaurants in Boston.

Dishes have included tagliatelle with black truffles and buttermilk fried quail seasoned with nori and wasabi. The space is small and fills up, giving the room a close, packed-in energy on busy nights.

Michelin selected Lenox Sophia for its guide in 2025, and the restaurant's chef was a James Beard Best Chef: Northeast semifinalist in 2026.
