Kerbey Lane Cafe's Central location is where it all started: a small 1930s bungalow on Kerbey Lane that founders David and Patricia Ayer opened in 1980, serving affordable, housemade breakfast, lunch, and dinner to the neighborhood. The family briefly lived in the building alongside the restaurant in its earliest days.
The menu built its reputation on migas served over tortilla chips, fluffy buttermilk pancakes with rotating seasonal flavors, queso, chilaquiles, and a Texas Wagyu meatloaf. Breakfast runs all day alongside lunch and dinner service, and the bar pours coffee, juice, beer, wine, and cocktails.
Now more than four decades old, Kerbey Lane has grown from this single bungalow into a multi-location Austin institution, with Mason Ayer — born in the restaurant the year it opened — now running the company his parents founded. The original Rosedale location remains the smallest and most distinct of the group: a renovated house with green and orange walls and low, homey ceilings, and it draws a packed, all-ages crowd especially during weekend brunch.
