Commerce Cafe opened in downtown Lockhart in 2020, a project from chefs and co-owners Sarah Heard and Nathan Lemley, who met working at Austin's Parkside before taking over Foreign & Domestic in 2017. Sarah grew up in Lockhart, and the cafe reads as a return to that town rather than an extension of their Austin restaurant.
The kitchen sources meat and produce as close to Lockhart as it can, built around a straightforward, unfussy approach to a neighborhood cafe menu. A cocktail program runs alongside the food, and the space aims for a comfortable, come-as-you-are feel for locals and visitors passing through.
