Our Take

Sammy's is a sandwich shop that acts like a coffee shop and gets away with it, houseplants on the tables, garage doors thrown open, a crowd of laptops and chatty groups who clearly plan to stay a while. The menu is small and changes constantly, which only works if every version of it is good. Here it is.

The Uncle Sam makes the case by itself: a buttery slider stuffed past capacity with house-smoked pork, built for a lunch you don't plan on rushing. The Samigo turkey sub goes the other direction, light and bright enough to eat at a keyboard without regret. The reuben holds its own against both. A zingy limeade ties the whole thing together and makes you want to order another round of nothing in particular just to keep sitting there.

The National recognition follows the food rather than explaining it: a spot on the New York Times' national restaurant list, plus notice from other national lists that don't need naming to matter. None of it accounts for why the place works. That's simpler. A sandwich shop that treats sandwiches as the whole argument, and wins it.

The Spot
Sammy's runs a tight menu of sandwiches, coffee, and cocktails out of a spot on Northside Drive SW, with locally-sourced ingredients showing up across the board. It operates as a neighborhood deli — the sort of place regulars treat as a default stop, dog in tow.

The coffee program has built its own following alongside the sandwiches, and the room reads as cozy and welcoming rather than fussy. Sammy's has landed on the Eater 38, carries an 8.1 rating from The Infatuation, and was named to The New York Times' Restaurant List in 2025.
