Hales Blackbrick is chef Richard Hales' modern Chinese concept in Hyde Park, now settled at 1809 W Platt St after moving from its original Dale Mabry address. A Tampa native, Hales spent years training across Asia before returning home to open the restaurant, and the cooking carries a Sichuan-inspired, chef-authored point of view.
The dining room is built for a full evening, with moody lighting, an award-winning wine cellar, and a bar area for guests working through the list. The Platt Street Room is a separate private space with hand-painted murals and round tables, used for celebrations, corporate dinners, and full restaurant buyouts.
Beyond the à la carte menu, Blackbrick offers The Florida Menu, a prix fixe tasting that walks through an amuse and four courses built around Hales' signature dishes. Duck is among the dishes that stand out to diners.
