Our Take

Bettina has spent four straight years earning Michelin's Bib Gourmand, which is the designation for exactly this kind of restaurant: food worth a special trip that doesn't try to be more than it is. This is pizza done with real technique and no pretension about it, served in a room that reads as a neighborhood spot even as its reputation has grown well past the neighborhood.

What holds it together is consistency. The reviews describe a place that delivers the same solid experience visit after visit — food that's good, service that's attentive, an atmosphere that feels genuine rather than staged for a crowd chasing a Michelin sticker. That's harder to pull off than one great meal, and it's the reason the recognition keeps renewing instead of fading after a single cycle of hype.

The point is a pizza place that has figured out how to be very good, reliably, without losing the plot. That's rarer than it sounds, and worth the trip.

The Spot
Bettina sits in the Montecito Country Mart, a neighborhood restaurant centered on naturally leavened, wood-fired pizzas and simple dishes shaped by the owner's travels through Italy. The kitchen leans on Southern California's produce and coastal setting, and the space spans an indoor dining room and an outdoor courtyard.

The bar functions as its own entry point, first-come first-served, with the full menu available there for anyone stopping in for a spritz rather than a full meal.

Michelin has awarded Bettina a Bib Gourmand every year from 2022 through 2026, following a Selected notice in 2020. Santa Barbara Independent named it among the city's best in 2025.
