Our Take

Nick's on Broadway has spent the better part of a decade earning recognition from the same body, in the same category, without ever dropping off the radar. A semifinalist nod in 2016 and again in 2020 would be a nice run on its own. Coming back with a finalist nomination in 2025, then another finalist nod alongside a semifinalist mention in 2026, is a different thing entirely. That's not a hot streak. That's a kitchen holding a standard for ten years running.

Restaurants get noticed once fairly often. Getting noticed at four separate points across a decade means the cooking never slipped enough to fall out of the conversation, and never coasted long enough to be forgotten. On Federal Hill, in a neighborhood thick with competition for Italian-American attention, that kind of sustained scrutiny from the same national judges says the food is still doing the work.

This is what consistency looks like when it's real. Nick's has earned its seat at the table, repeatedly, and kept it.

The Spot
Nicks on Broadway sits on Broadway in Providence's Federal Hill, where Chef Derek works from an open kitchen in view of diners. The gluten-free biscuits have become a signature order, part of a farm-to-table approach built on fresh, seasonal ingredients.

Beyond the dine-in room, Nicks runs a pantry counter for house-made goods to go, a separate Rosé + Oysters menu, and takeout service alongside its main offerings. The restaurant has built a strong repeat customer base on consistent execution.

The kitchen has drawn sustained national attention: the James Beard Foundation named it a Best Chef semifinalist in 2016 and 2020, then a Best Chef (Northeast) semifinalist and finalist in both 2025 and 2026.
