Our Take

LOMA is a bar, and the case for it starts there. Federal Hill has run on old-school Italian-American rooms for generations, and a bar program sharp enough to cut through that landscape and pull national attention is doing something the neighborhood hasn't seen in a while. Local press took notice too, which matters — this isn't outside hype landing on a room nobody home was talking about.

What's thin on the record is the kitchen side of things, so the full argument here rests on the bar itself. Judged on that, LOMA earns it. Sit at the bar and let the people running it make the decisions.

The recognition is the confirmation, not the pitch. A single category nod from the James Beard Foundation running from semifinalist through winner isn't a fluke pattern — it's a program that already had the room's attention before the trophy arrived. Federal Hill needed a bar with this much conviction. Now it has one.

The Spot
Loma brings a classic cocktail bar sensibility to Federal Hill, built around a 60s-70s home bar aesthetic. The drink program leans on inventive cocktails inspired by Latin American culture, with a backbar that rotates a featured spirit each month, paired against a lineup of classic cocktails built to showcase it.

The room has developed a reputation for attentive, detail-oriented service and a warm, unhurried atmosphere. Rhode Island Monthly named Loma among the best in the city for 2025, and the James Beard Foundation named it winner of Best New Bar in 2026.
