The Spot
Abyssinian Kitchen sits on NE Alberta Street in Concordia, where chef and owner Elsa serves Ethiopian and Eritrean cuisine. She held off opening the restaurant until her three children were grown, then built a menu around locally sourced produce, quality meat, fish and poultry, and preservative-free dried legumes, seasoned with her own spice blends. Injera is made from 100% teff flour, making it gluten-free.

The menu leans traditional, though the kitchen will work with guests who have dietary restrictions. As a first-generation immigrant, Elsa has described her cooking as a way to bring people from different backgrounds together, serving it with the warmth and hospitality she associates with Habesha culture.
