La Trattoria sits on Germantown Avenue in Mt. Airy, an intimate BYOB space opened by Chef/Owner Bledar Istrefi in the summer of 2014. The idea was to bring the hospitality and quality of an Italian trattoria to Northwest Philadelphia, using local ingredients prepared simply, in a style that draws on both northern and southern Italian traditions.
Istrefi makes his own cured meats, pasta, bread, and desserts in-house. Dishes like eggplant rollatini, artichoke stuffed with crabmeat, linguine with scallops and shrimp, and duck leg have appeared on the menu, with homemade tiramisu and a pour of limoncello often closing out the meal.
The dining room is small and personal, decorated with rotating artwork from local artists. Regulars point to the food quality and value as consistent draws, even as service and pacing can vary visit to visit.
