Our Take

Tac/Quila has done the hard thing four years running: stayed good enough that Michelin keeps noticing, without turning into a tourist trap that coasts on the nod. That's rare in a downtown built for foot traffic and forgiving palates. The consistency is the story here — the kind of steady execution that shows up meal after meal rather than on one good night.

The atmosphere carries its weight too. This isn't a room you tolerate while waiting for the food; people come back for the whole package, service included, which matters in a strip full of places that get one of those things right and phone in the rest.

It isn't flawless. Portions run small enough to notice, and service can slow when the room fills, which reads as a kitchen and floor occasionally outpaced by their own popularity. Neither complaint undoes the case. Four consecutive Michelin selections aren't a fluke — they're confirmation of a kitchen that has figured out how to be reliably good in a downtown that rewards being merely fine.

The Spot
Tac/Quila sits on North Palm Canyon Drive in the heart of downtown Palm Springs, with shaded outdoor seating facing the main strip. It was started by Liz and Mark, a couple who left careers in law to build a restaurant together, landing on Mexican food and a cocktail program as the shared vision.

The restaurant is connected to sister spot Clandestino Palm Springs, and the two kitchens share a number of menu items alongside dishes exclusive to each. Street tacos and margaritas are among the regulars' orders, and the cocktail program in particular has built a following of its own.

Tac/Quila has been named to the Michelin Guide's Selected list for Palm Springs every year from 2023 through 2026.
