Our Take

The Loveless Café has been on Highway 100 since 1951, and the biscuits are still legitimately good. That's about all the honest truth there is.

The rest is a tourist operation grown around two items — biscuits and country ham — that don't require a gift shop, an event barn, or your afternoon. The drive isn't about food anymore.

The Spot
The Loveless Cafe opened in 1951 when Lon and Annie Loveless began serving fried chicken and biscuits out of their home just west of Nashville. The kitchen still runs on their unaltered recipes today.

The biscuits carry the restaurant's reputation, served with house-made preserves, and are sold alongside country ham, 22-hour Tennessee hickory-smoked pulled pork BBQ, and scratch-made sides like cream corn and turnip greens. Fried chicken, hash browns, banana pudding, and pie round out the rest of the menu.

The property has grown well past its original dining rooms, now including on-site shops selling biscuit mix, preserves, smoked meats, and butters, plus an events operation built around the Loveless Barn and Harpeth Room. It draws a steady mix of locals and visitors, many arriving specifically for the biscuits, with waits that can run over an hour.
