The Spot
City Cafe East has sat on the corner of Lebanon Pike and Spence Lane for almost 30 years. Chef George and his wife, Amy Reed, took over the cafeteria-style spot on September 29, 2008, keeping its meat-and-three format intact.

There's no set menu or price list — George runs the counter and cooks what's being made that day. Chicken Tortilla soup with Cajun Corn Cake is a daily fixture, with Creole Gumbo and New England Clam Chowder rotating through. A grilled Reuben and a Ribeye Steak Philly Cheese round out the regular lineup, and when George pulls the grill out front, it usually means smoked chicken or beef brisket the next day — popular enough that the restaurant keeps an email list just to announce it. The kitchen also handles catering under the name Awesome Catering By George.

Regulars describe a place built on familiarity — consistent comfort food, a friendly counter staff, and owners who know the people coming through the door.
