North Star Deli takes its name from the Minnesota North Stars, and the tribute runs through the room itself, filled with retro touches and memorabilia from the owner's own collection. The menu keeps things simple: serious sandwiches, nothing fancy, built on farm-fed, humanely raised meat and organic produce sourced daily, including from Black Radish Farm in South Minneapolis. Bread comes from neighboring bakery Pâtisserie 46, and the drink case stocks local soda from Brau Brothers Brewing.
Seating is limited to a handful of tables inside, with additional patio seating in warmer months, so the focus stays on the counter and what comes out of it. Regulars point to the owner's presence and the value of the food as much as the sandwiches themselves, with service that can vary from visit to visit.
