Mondongo's Restaurante takes its name from the dish at its center: a long-simmered tripe soup served with rice, avocado, lime, and arepa. Beyond that signature bowl, the kitchen works through the rest of Colombian cocina casera — ajiaco, sancocho, cazuelas of beans or lentils — alongside paisa platters of beans, rice, chicharrón, chorizo, ground beef, sweet plantain, arepa, avocado, and a fried egg.
The dining room in Doral is large and dressed up, with a ranch-style look substantial enough to host a quinceañera, though the kitchen keeps things unpretentious enough for a quick lunch in workout clothes. The empanadas de maíz have built a serious following, and grilled meats, including steak, round out a menu that spans both soup and parrilla.
Mondongo's also runs a second, smaller location, Mondongo's Express, in Miami, alongside the Doral dining room.
