Our Take

Street to Kitchen cooks Thai food at full voltage — Benchawan "Chef G" Jabthong Painter's kitchen runs authentically spicy and entirely unapologetic about it, and that refusal to soften is exactly what the Beard Foundation rewarded when it named her Best Chef in Texas.

The Bib Gourmand followed, twice. The room is small, the curries are serious, and the premise holds: cook it the way it's actually supposed to taste, and trust the city to come. Houston did.

The Spot
Street to Kitchen serves Thai food in South Central Houston built around bold, spice-forward flavors that don't get softened for wider tastes. The curries and appetizers have become the dishes regulars keep returning for, and the kitchen holds its recipes firm — no substitutions or modifications on the menu.

The restaurant's cooking earned the James Beard Foundation's Best Chef: Texas award in 2023. It has since landed on Eater's national Eater 38 list and picked up a Michelin Bib Gourmand in both 2024 and 2025.

The dining room runs busy and popular, a byproduct of a tightly focused menu rather than one padded for variety, with a reputation for authentic Thai flavor that keeps the space full.
