Zingerman's Delicatessen opened in March of 1982 near the Ann Arbor Farmers' Market, founded by Paul Saginaw and Ari Weinzweig. The deli built its name on made-to-order sandwiches — Black Angus corned beef and pastrami, free-range chicken and turkey, housemade chopped liver and chicken salad among them.
Beyond the sandwich counter, the shop stocks an extensive grocery selection: farmhouse cheeses, specialty olive oils and vinegars, smoked fish, salami, locally roasted coffee, teas, and locally sourced produce for salads.
The deli is a member of the Kerrytown District in Ann Arbor and has grown into a well-known draw for visitors to the area. It was a finalist for the James Beard Foundation's Outstanding Service award in 2019.
