Our Take

Annette sits in Aurora, not the part of Denver that usually gets the destination treatment, and that geography is part of the argument. This is American cooking built for a neighborhood, not a skyline, and the kitchen has spent years proving that location isn't a ceiling.

The record backs that up without needing embellishment. A semifinalist nod for the restaurant itself in 2018, a semifinalist nod for the chef the same year, another the year after, a finalist placement in 2020, and the win in 2022 — that's not a single hot year, it's a kitchen that kept improving under national scrutiny and came out the other side better than when it started.

Local coverage has treated it as a fixture rather than a discovery, showing up on the city's own lists year after year, and it's landed on national recognition well beyond Denver. That kind of sustained attention, aimed at a restaurant that never left Aurora, means something. Annette didn't chase the spotlight downtown. It made the spotlight come to it.

The Spot
Annette occupies a spot inside Stanley Marketplace in Aurora, where Chef Caroline Glover runs a wood-fired American kitchen built on a scratch-to-table approach shaped by years spent working the land. Dishes start from real ingredients and are cooked over live fire, with seasonal, chef-driven menus that lean on wood-fired vegetables and handmade desserts.

Upstairs, Traveling Mercies operates as an intimate neighborhood oyster and cocktail bar, giving the building a second, more casual layer alongside Annette's dining room.

Glover won the James Beard Award for Best Chef in 2022, after appearing as a finalist and semifinalist for the same award in prior years. Annette has also been named to Eater's national Essential 38 list, was voted Best Restaurant in Aurora in Westword's 2025 Best of Denver readers' poll, and was included in 5280 Magazine's 2025 rundown of the city's best restaurants.
