Fiya

Fiya works because it refuses to specialize in one kind of night. The Andersonville spot serves Israeli-inspired food in a room built to flex: a bar for a quick lunch after the taxidermy at the Wooly Mammoth, a table for a date, a back room loud enough to survive a birthday chorus for twenty. Most restaurants pick a lane. Fiya built enough seats and enough range on the menu to skip that choice entirely.

What makes that work is that the food holds up across all of it. This isn't a place coasting on atmosphere with forgettable plates propping it up — the cooking is the reason people keep coming back for whichever version of the night they're having. Getting a table doesn't require strategy, either. Walk in on a Saturday with a group and there's a real chance you're seated before you finish complaining about the wait somewhere else.

Michelin has selected Fiya twice, in 2021 and again in 2023, and it's landed on national radar beyond that. The recognition tracks with what's actually happening at the tables: a neighborhood restaurant doing real cooking without making anyone perform for it.
