Our Take

Husk runs its menu daily, which is either a gimmick or a discipline, and here it reads as discipline. Kentuckyaki glazed crispy pig's ears and cornmeal dusted catfish aren't stunts on a plate — they're an argument that Southern food has a depth most kitchens never bother reaching for. The plating is careful without being precious, and the effect is disorienting in the best way: you leave thinking you understood this cuisine and clearly didn't.

Getting a table is its own test of commitment, and the restaurant knows it. That's not padding — it's the honest cost of being the most sought-after kitchen in Charleston. If you can't clear it, the bar next door isn't a consolation prize. The cheeseburger, the pimento cheese, the country ham hold up on their own terms, with bourbon deep enough to make the wait feel like a plan rather than a compromise.

The recognition tracks with the plate, not around it. A Michelin selection, a Beard nod for the chef, a spot among the country's best new restaurants decades into the concept's life — that's not nostalgia, that's a kitchen still cooking like it has something to prove. It does.

The Spot
Husk has been part of Charleston's dining scene since 2011, one of three locations under The Neighborhood Dining Group alongside sister restaurants in Nashville and Savannah. The kitchen works with a network of local farmers and purveyors, building dishes on the South's culinary traditions while layering in what the restaurant describes as subtle global influences, with ingredients sourced seasonally and city by city.

The menu leans on Southern staples — cornbread, biscuits, catfish, pork, and ham — alongside dishes like ribs and a cheeseburger that's developed a following of its own, with brunch service drawing its own crowd.

Husk has picked up recognition over the years: a James Beard Foundation Best New Restaurant semifinalist nod in 2011, an Outstanding Chef finalist nomination in 2015, a spot on Robb Report's Best New Restaurants list for 2026, and selection in the Michelin Guide's 2025 edition.
