Our Take

Asta is a tasting-menu restaurant that refuses to act like one. Sheepskin blankets line the benches, the kitchen runs open and loud, and there's a Ryan Gosling poster in the bathroom — the kind of detail that tells you this room doesn't take fine dining as seriously as the food on the plate. That's the trick. The format is formal. The experience isn't.

The cooking backs it up more often than not. Lamb with green pea puree, mackerel with squid ink and endive — upscale American plates built for contrast, not comfort. Not every course lands as a knockout, but across five or eight rounds there are consistently a few bites that stick with you, which is the actual bar a tasting menu has to clear. Portions run small by design; that's the format, not a flaw, though it's worth knowing going in.

A Michelin selection and a James Beard Best New Restaurant semifinalist nod both confirm what the room already tells you: this is a kitchen with real ambition that hasn't forgotten how to be fun. Go hungry, settle into the blankets, and let the open kitchen do its work.

The Spot
Asta serves tasting menus exclusively, built in five- or eight-course formats around upscale American cooking. The room undercuts the formality that often comes with that structure: sheepskin blankets cover the benches, the kitchen sits open to the dining room, and the bathroom has a Ryan Gosling poster.

The menu rotates, but recurring dishes have included lamb with green pea puree and mackerel with squid ink and endive.

Asta also offers take-home tasting dinners for pickup several nights a week, extending its tasting-menu format beyond the dining room itself.

Michelin selected Asta for its guide in 2025. The restaurant's chef was a Best Chef semifinalist in 2015 and again in 2017, and Asta was a Best New Restaurant semifinalist in 2014.
