T-Bone's traces back to Anthony "T-Bone" Crawford, who opened his first shop in Center Point, Alabama in March 2002 before expanding to Birmingham's Southside on Highland Avenue. The two locations ran together for five years until circumstances forced the Southside spot to close, and loyal customers kept driving out to Center Point for their cheesesteaks in the meantime. T-Bone's eventually made its way back to the Southside, where it now sits in Five Points South.
The sandwiches are built on genuine Amoroso rolls shipped in from Philadelphia, and the shop identifies first and foremost as a cheesesteak counter rather than a general sandwich spot — Cheez Whiz is deliberately left off the operation in favor of a more traditional approach. Hoagies, burgers, and salads round out the menu alongside the cheesesteaks.
