Our Take

Bottega's case is built on hospitality, and the record backs that up with unusual precision. The James Beard Foundation doesn't hand out an Outstanding Hospitality nod lightly, and Bottega earned it as both semifinalist and finalist in the same cycle — recognition of a room that runs on service instincts sharp enough to notice twice in one year, not a single good night mistaken for a pattern.

The bar operates as its own draw. A separate Beard finalist nod for the bar program means the drinks aren't an afterthought to the Italian menu — someone is running that side of the room with the same seriousness as the kitchen, and it shows in the fact that it got judged on its own terms.

Michelin selected the restaurant in 2025, and it has landed on national recognition lists more than once. None of that is the argument by itself. It's confirmation of what the hospitality categories already made clear: this is a Five Points South restaurant that has figured out how to make a dining room feel considered from the moment you sit down, consistently enough that the people who track that specifically keep coming back to say so.

The Spot
Bottega occupies a historic Beaux-Arts building in Five Points South, run by chef Frank Stitt, who trained at Chez Panisse in San Francisco before working for Richard Olney in the South of France. The restaurant operates as two spaces: a formal Dining Room that opened first, and an adjoining Café that followed two years later, built around a wood-burning oven.

The cooking links ingredients from the American South with artisanal producers from the Italian countryside. Regulars return for the seared beef carpaccio, Niçoise salad, and chicken scaloppini, while the Café's eight pizzas come out of that wood-burning oven alongside other dishes cooked over the same fire.

Michelin selected Bottega for its 2025 guide, and the James Beard Foundation named it a 2026 finalist for Outstanding Hospitality after also naming it a semifinalist that year; its bar program was a Beard finalist in 2023 as well. Bham Now included Bottega among Birmingham's best restaurants for 2026, and The Infatuation has covered it as part of its city guide.
