SAW's BBQ started in 2009 when a hobbyist smoker named Wilson opened the original location in the former Broadway BBQ spot — the name itself a self-deprecating acronym. The menu centers on Carolina-style smoked pulled pork, chicken, and ribs, served with a choice of three house sauces, alongside sides like baked potatoes, beans, deviled eggs, mac and cheese, coleslaw, and banana pudding.
After the concept began franchising in 2018, SAW's expanded into Five Points South, taking over the former home of Fat Sam's Sub Station. It joined a growing list of Birmingham-area locations, each with its own atmosphere but the same core barbecue menu.
Bham Now named SAW's among its best-of-the-city picks for 2026.
