SAW's Soul Kitchen is the second restaurant to carry the SAW's name, opened in 2012 when Mike Wilson — who'd started smoking meat as a hobby before opening the original SAW's BBQ in Homewood in 2009 — partnered with Brandon Cain to take over the former Quick & Split Cafe space.
The kitchen smokes in the Carolina style: pulled pork, chicken, and ribs, served with a choice of house sauces. Scratch-made sides fill out the plate, including baked potatoes, beans, deviled eggs, mac and cheese, coleslaw, and banana pudding.
Regulars describe the room as an authentic mom-and-pop spot with a live-music atmosphere, generous portions, and fair prices — the kind of place built on smoked meat and scratch cooking rather than polish.
