Niki's West has served the Acipco-Finley area of Birmingham since 1957. Pete and Teddy Hontzas, second-generation owners, run the restaurant their father, the late Gus P. Hontzas, built from modest beginnings into a fixture of the city's dining scene.
The centerpiece is the steam table: a cafeteria-style line where guests move through daily selections of vegetables and home-style Southern dishes that change day to day. For a seated, ordered meal instead, an a la carte menu covers steak, fresh seafood, and a handful of traditional Greek dishes reflecting the family's heritage.
The building carries its own history — part of the current kitchen occupies what used to be a lounge in the restaurant's earlier days. Regulars and visitors alike describe it as a meat-and-three institution known for consistency, portions, and a Greek-Southern comfort food mix that's held steady for decades.
Niki's West was named to Bham Now's 2026 citywide best-of list.
